Grade church

Grade 02

The church of the Holy Cross or St Grada is one of those now left lonely in the countryside with no other building near it. In fact Cadgwith and the coast are a short distance away. It can be found up a long grassy track.

Extensively re-built by the Victorians, its interior proportions are more suited to an urban suburb than a lonely field.

It is a breathtakingly simple church with a single aisle and boasts a fine serpentine pulpit and lectern.

There is one rather nice C16 brass monument to James Enisey, his wife and ten children: five of each. We can only approve of his arms which bear three griffins.

We visited again in March 2022 and were disappointed to see that the owls had flown but reassured by the appearance of a small hedgehog in the organ pipes.
