St Alleyne is one of those churches which history has left stranded in the middle of nowhere: only five miles from Truro but with no houses around it.
Someone loves it, however, for there is a massive car park and it is obviously well-cared for.
Although large and airy, it is actually rather disappointing inside. Many 
Cornish churches have been over-restored by our Victorian ancestors. St Alleyne feels more over-restored in the C20 with modern pews which exude no historic feel and no particular highlights once inside.
An interesting font; a readers’ desk made from a re-used pulpit surround and an unusual slate memorial slab is hardly a long list of delights. But the stetting is lovely and the trip worth making, if only for the stone crosses in the churchyard.
