Cornish Coast Path

P1020389We did not think we could claim to have walked around in Cornwall until we had walked around Cornwall. We therefore set off to  walk the whole of the (Cornish section) of the South West Coast Path. This is about 300 miles long.

Some people do this the hard way, carrying everything on their backs. Others use the bed and breakfast solution which requires immaculate planning and timekeeping, or some nerve-wracking moments finding somewhere on spec. It also runs a real risk of some very nasty weather.

Living in Cornwall, we did it in stretches, using two cars when we could, to compensate for the lack of alternative forms of transport and to avoid the dispiriting feeling that we were only walking half as far as we might by using a there-and-back strategy. We tackled the more distant stretches – mainly those over 1.5 hours drive from home – by doing two-day trips, staying in bed and breakfasts.

We were rigorous about the stretches that we had already done: we had to be able to remember walking them together. Taking those as a starting point, we joined the dots to create a single narrative.

This is a map of our progress. Links to some of our posts are below: in geographical order, if not the order or direction in which we did them. We are updating these as we re-walk sections and discover new things.
