St Keyne stands on a high platform above the road on the edge of the sprawling village of the same name.
It would be good to be able to say that we had seen inside: been able to admire the work of JP St Aubyn – we can guess – in 1868, the slates to John Hick and John Edcumbe, and to see the C15 plain octagonal font, but sadly not. It was locked. On a Sunday.
There was a telephone number but no one answered …
Opposite the church was the Old School House, a simple building halfway between railway shed and barn, which no doubt served its purpose before its conversion into a home.
We contented ourselves visiting St Keyne’s well half a mile away.
