Cornwall’s industrial heritage stretches back over 2000 years with Roman writers talking about Britain as the tin islands. The definition we use here is the more familiar one of the industrial period from around the Industrial Revolution to the present day.

Large areas of Cornwall are included in the Cornwall and Devon Mining World Heritage site and the remains of mining activity can be seen across the landscape.

We also include in this definition related activities such as tramways, railways, docks and harbours, many of which supported this important industry.

Major walks we have taken through industrial landscapes include:

• The Great Flat Lode around Camborne and Redruth
• The Copper Trail around Bodmin Moor
• The Tinners’ Way – which combines ancient monuments, early medieval and industrial heritage
