St Lalluwy’s holy well stands on Bowling Green, a short distance from Menheniot church. Seen on a sunny spring morning when the leek are in full flower, it is a joy.
The little wellhouse was re-built in C19, perhaps at the same time as the church was being restored, with the C16 arch being re-set.
The well is set in a small dip, entered by stepping over a stumble stone.
Phil Cope visited at much the same time of year and his photograph graces pages 175/5 in Guy English’s book on wells.
You can find the well here.
